How many of us dream of finding a hidden treasure, like those in stories where a veteran kept his watch forever, and now it’s worth a fortune? Or the ones where someone finds a watch hidden in an old chair, only to discover it belonged to a famous personality? Well, something like that happened to me, and today, I’m going to share that story.
A few years ago, a friend of mine received a lot of watches to sell. Among them were some impressive pieces—Patek, Lange & Söhne, and other brands that made an old, humble Speedmaster look pretty insignificant. But something about that Speedmaster caught my attention.
I noticed a few details that made me think it might be one of the earliest Speedmasters ever made. It didn’t say “Professional” on the dial, and the case back only had “Speedmaster” written on the side. When I asked about the price, they told me it wasn’t one of the important watches—it was just an everyday piece with no real value.
So, I bought it for a ridiculously low price.

That’s when the surprises started. I took it home, opened it up, and discovered that it was none other than a CK2915-2. This meant it was likely from 1958 and was the second or third version ever released. However, the hands and bezel didn’t match—they must have been replaced during a service at some point.
Even with those differences, I knew I had something special in my hands. For the next two years, I wore it almost every day, enjoying every moment with this incredible piece of history.
As for how I eventually sold it? Well, that’s a story for another day.
